Job Description

The Associate Academic Dean will assist the Academic Dean in the fulfillment of the mission of the University and the College of Public Service by adhering to the standards and directives set by the leadership team.  The following are essential tasks and qualifications that the Associate Academic Dean agrees to accept as a condition of employment. Job responsibilities are not limited to the items listed below.

  • Ongoing evaluation and revision of the curriculum of each College program
  • Development of new online courses and live seminars
  • Ensuring the College is in compliance with accrediting agency and various state departments of education requirements
  • Researching, planning, and creating new academic programs
  • Supervise faculty to ensure their performance meets or exceeds University standards
  • Conduct classroom observations as needed
  • Oversee course and faculty scheduling
  • Advise Dean and Graduate Appeals Committee regarding student academic appeals
  • Facilitate and/or teach courses and live seminars when needed
  • Provide orientation and instructor/facilitator development and assessment to all newly-hired program instructors
  • Make recommendations for and participate in the hiring, training, professional development, evaluation, and retention of faculty
  • Communicate and work closely with the Registrar’s Office.
  • Advise professional fraternity or honor society for students.
  • Coordinate academic partnerships and articulation agreements
  • Work with Development division personnel in coordination of Alumni activities.
  • Adjudicate student academic appeals
  • Contribute to the success of the University as a whole
  • Complete other duties as assigned


Job Requirements

Education:     Required: Doctoral degree in Criminal Justice, Law, Criminology, Public Administration or a closely related field.

Experience:    Minimum four years related experience in higher education, especially in the area of teaching and curriculum development. Strong administrative, management and leadership skills.  Experience supervising employees is a plus.

Skills:              Must be able to multi-task, solve problems, work well with a diverse student population, maintain appropriate confidentiality when working with student, faculty and staff records, and demonstrate high standards of professionalism.  Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.  Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is a plus.
