Society of St. Andrew-Gleaning

Every fall, Bethel partners with the Society of St. Andrew to glean local fields. Gleaning is a biblical concept where farmers leave portions of their fields un-harvested for the needy. During each gleaning event, volunteers spend a couple of hours harvesting leftover crops and then deliver the produce to local feeding agencies.

The Society of St. Andrew is one of America’s premier food rescue and distribution ministries. Their mission is to introduce people to God's grace through meeting their hungers:

Food for the body

God's word for the spirit

Community of love for the heart

Opportunity for those who desire action

McKenzie United Neighbors-Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantries

Throughout the year, volunteers from Bethel will help with local Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantries which exist to “feed hope” to those in need. Large trucks of food are delivered to the distribution sites where volunteers help organize and pass out the food to the neediest families in the area.

The next Second Harvest event in the McKenzie area is scheduled for Saturday August 16, 2014 at McKenzie First Baptist Church. The truck will arrive at the church at 8:00 a.m. and distribution is from 10:15 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Volunteers are welcome to participate for the whole event or help when they can.
