Marisa Knight is the 2009 Hendrix Scholarship Recipient
Marisa Knight of Houston, Texas, was named the 2009 Bethel College Hendrix Scholarship winner. She was chosen over 30 other students who were invited to compete for the recent competition that included a rigorous academic examination and an interview process.
Knight attends Stratford High School and is an active member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Houston. Knight, the daughter of Rev. J. Geoffrey and Mrs. Rose Anne Knight, intends to major in music education. As the Hendrix scholarship winner, Knight will receive full tuition, room and board at Bethel.
Faye Taylor, a senior from Cedar Grove, Tenn., was chosen as runner up in the competition. Taylor, who attends West Carroll High School, will receive full tuition to Bethel. Taylor is an active member of Twin Oaks Baptist Church, and she is the daughter of Neil and Kathleen Taylor. She intends to double major in theater and English.
The Hendrix Scholarship is Bethel’s most prestigious academic scholarship. This year, students came from as far away as Texas and Wisconsin to compete for the competition which was established by Nashville civic leader and businessman Willard R. Hendrix in 1988.
