Bethel family and friends traveled to Pringles Park in Jackson, Tenn., on Thursday, April 23 for Bethel Night at the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx game against the Tennessee Smokies.
“We were very pleased with the turnout we had for the evening,” said Glenn Hayes, Bethel’s athletic director. “According to Diamond Jaxx officials Bethel night bested any Thursday night crowd they had all year last year. They said our gate for Bethel Night was even better than it was when they had the San Diego Chicken at the park on a Thursday last year.”
The night was infused with Bethel people and faces. Renaissance, Bethel’s performing arts group, sang at the entrance of Pringles Park before the event, and the Renaissance Bluegrass group sang on the concourse of the park prior to the game as well.
“Our Renaissance gospel quartet sang the national anthem,” and the Renaissance
R & B group sang the seventh inning stretch song.”
Hayes says there were two ceremonial first pitches. Men’s Soccer Coach Melvin Belong and Bethel’s National Championship soccer team were recognized and Coach Belong threw a pitch, and then Peter Jeffrey, Director of Bethel’s Renaissance group, also threw out a pitch.
“I think this is something we might do again in the future,” Hayes said.
