Lady Wildcats Capture TranSouth Conference Softball Title

The 2009 TranSouth Athletic Conference Softball Tournament was unfortunately shortened due to inclement weather. After dodging storms on Thursday and Friday - "mother nature" finally set in on Pulaski, Tenn. Friday night, making the fields unplayable for Saturday.

The radar also revealed more storms approaching from the West on Saturday afternoon and evening.

Due to the unplayable conditions and approaching storms, Bethel College was awarded the 2009 Conference Tournament Championship.
They were the only remaining undefeated team among the three remaining teams. The other two remaining teams, #1 Seed Martin Methodist College and #2 Seed Freed-Hardman University, were each defeated by Bethel College in the tournament prior to the rain out.

With the tournament championship, Bethel College receives the TranSouth automatic bid to the 2009 NAIA National Championships.

This marks the second time in Bethel softball history that the team has qualified for the NAIA National Tournament. Bethel qualified for the tournament in 2006 by winning the Region XII Tournament in Owensboro, Ky. Bethel lost game one to #4 Simon Fraser (B.C.), but won game two against #5 St. Gregory's (Okla.) before being eliminated in losses to Valley City State (N.D.) and Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.).

The NAIA National Championships will begin on May 14, 2009 in Decatur, Ala. The Tournament will be played at Wilson Morgan Softball Complex.
