The Rev. Dr. Jon Carlock, professor of religion at Bethel, has been chosen as the new Hannibal Seagle Bible Chair, according to President Bob Prosser.
The Cumberland Presbyterian Church established the Hannibal Seagle Bible Chair in honor of the late Rev. Hannibal Seagle of Chattanooga, Tenn., who formerly served as secretary and treasurer of the Education Endowment Commission of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The last Bethel professor to hold the title was the late Rev. Dr. William Ramsey.
“It is my privilege to announce that Jon has earned this honor,” said Prosser. “The university recognizes the importance of this honor, and we are very proud to have him serving in this capacity. I thank Jon for his years of dedication to Bethel and to its students and for his commitment to the standards of higher education.”
Dr. Jim Scruton, chair of the Division of Humanities at Bethel, said, “Jon Carlock is the kind of faculty member who makes a division chair’s job easy.
“Throughout his 17 years of service to Bethel, he has been a voice of resolve, a source of counsel and an example of grit through personal health concerns that would have daunted the rest of us. He is a valued colleague and a treasured friend, deserving all the honors Bethel would have to bestow.”
