Bethel Homecoming 2010 is this Weekend

Bethel University’s 2010 Homecoming is this weekend, Nov. 5 and 6 at the school’s McKenzie campus. The weekend’s events begin with the 10th annual Homecoming Golf Tournament, which is a 4-person scramble. Shotgun start is at 11 a.m. at Carroll Lake Golf Club. The tournament is open to the general public and interested participants may contact Monte Cunningham at 731-415-7735.
The Homecoming Reunion Dinner and Dance for alumni and friends is at 6 p.m. at the Wrinkle Building in downtown McKenzie, and the Reunion Extravaganza with Renaissance follows at 8 p.m., in Bouldin Auditorium inside the Dickey Fine Arts Building.
“Reservations are required for the dinner,” said Myra Carlock, Director of Alumni Affairs. “They may call me to make reservations at 731-352-4090. Dinner tickets are $15 per person.”
Carlock said there are other noteworthy events for Friday.
“We have alumni who have written children’s books who will be coming to McKenzie Elementary during the school day on Friday to read to the children,” she said. “There will be demonstrations on campus from some of our new sports teams. And we’re very excited to have an interactive historical walking tour of the campus where our own Renaissance Theatre students will be helping us relive how our buildings and campus landmarks came to be.”
Carlock said there will be events all day long on Saturday as well.
“We have a reunion breakfast for current and former Bethel athletes, and a similar breakfast for our sororities and fraternities,” Carlock said. “Then there is the parade which is at 10 a.m.”
The parade will begin at Wildcat Stadium and travel along College Drive to Cedar. The parade will go past City Hall and travel along Stonewall and will make its final leg down Cherry in front of Bethel’s Campbell Hall Administration Building.
“This year’s Grand Marshal is the Rev. Dr. David Lancaster, associate professor of religion at Bethel,” Carlock said.
Other Saturday events include the alumni luncheon where the 2010 alumni awards will be announced, alumni baseball and softball games, an open house for prospective students, the 2010 Athletic Hall of Fame inductions, a tailgate party, Wildcat football at 7 p.m., the crowning of the 2010 Bethel University Homecoming King and Queen and a homecoming dance.
“It should be a great weekend,” Carlock said.
