Caixa Percussion Trio to Perform at Bethel Wednesday

Amy Smith, Julie Davila and Julie Hill make up the Caixa Percussion Trio.

Bethel University is proud to present the Caixa Percussion Trio this Wednesday night, March 23, at 7 p.m. in the Bethel Performing Arts Center.
Composed of Julie Davila, Julie Hill and Amy Smith, The Caixa Percussion Trio has been dazzling and educating international audiences for more than a decade. The ensemble derives its name from the caixa, or snare drum, used in escolas de samba in Brazil. Caixa performances include the Seoul Drum Festival in South Korea, Festival Internacional de la Percusion in Puerto Rico, Journees de La Percussion in Paris, France, and the Percussive Arts Society International Conventions. The unique Caixa experience presents the art of percussion in classical, rudimental, modern, electronic, and world music idioms. Caixa is dedicated to expanding the literature available for percussion trio by writing and commissioning new works. The trio released their first CD, Commissioned Works in 2007.
The Caixa Percussion Trio performance is free and open to the public.
