Bethel President Bob Prosser poses with mother and daughter graduates Ronda Pruitt of Murray, Ky., and Sherry Wells of Cadiz, Ky., during summer 2011 Commencement held Aug. 6 on Bethel's McKenzie campus.

Bethel University held its summer 2011 Commencement ceremonies on Saturday, Aug. 6 at the school's McKenzie campus. The Rev. Don Tabor, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, was the Commencement speaker and 213 degrees were presented.
Rev. Tabor’s speech focused on the Bible verse, John 10:10, which says “I’m come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly.”
“There will be times when your comfort zone will be disturbed and you will be challenged on what you are doing,” Tabor said. “There will be times when you experience turmoil, but God will bring you comfort.
“Today we think about God walking with us even when we are about to lose heart,” he said.
Tabor reminded graduates that they were not going to be done with homework and presentations – that they would still have these things in their careers. But he reminded graduates that what they would have would be heightened abilities as a result of their experience at Bethel University.
Tabor also talked about a list of items he wanted graduates to take away from the day.
“Be a person of integrity,” Tabor said. “This is when people come to trust you. If you lose your credibility, you can never retain it.”
Tabor also told graduates to develop a strong work ethic and to be the kind of people who would go the second mile.
“Also be a confident person,” Tabor said. “If you don’t have confidence, find ways to develop it. You are going to need it.”
Tabor went on to tell graduates to also be enthusiastic.
“Some say, whatever!” he said. “Then there are those who say whatever it takes! Be that person.
“Finally, be positive and be a good lover. Love your spouse, and your children and your family.”
