Bethel University Athletics has a new member of the athletic family. Brad Chappell of McKenzie has accepted the position of Associate Athletics Director.
Chappell, a McKenzie High and Bethel graduate was McKenzie Middle School Head Football coach and also taught seventh grade social studies. He had worked at the middle school since 2002. Prior to his nine years at McKenzie, Chappell worked six years in Dresden as assistant high school football coach.
Chappell graduated from Bethel in 1996, and received his Master's in Education from Bethel in 2002.
“I am really excited about the opportunity to come to Bethel and work with college coaches and college student-athletes. I loved my time in public education for 15 years but felt it was time for a new challenge in my life," said Chappell. He added, “Knowing Athletics Director Glenn Hayes and Associate Athletics Director Ty Butler most of my life helped make the decision easier. There are so many other fantastic people at every level at the school with whom I am familiar and that makes it even more exciting. The fact the school is growing and expanding at every level makes it a place you want to be, and to be a part of the exciting time in school history was a huge factor in making my decision.’
Coach Hayes expressed his thoughts. “To be able to bring someone like Brad into our Bethel family is a blessing for our department and the entire school. He is so well liked and respected in the community. He has great leadership skills and we look forward to his being a part of our team.”
Ty Butler said, “To have Brad join us is simply great. He is a quality individual who really cares about people, and with him it is just not about how student athletes do on the playing surfaces, it is about how they do in life. He will be invaluable as we continue to grow as a school and department.”
