Bethel's Dawyne "Rick" Smith Selected in Draft by New England
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution of the MLS selected four players in today's Supplemental Draft, which consisted of four rounds of 19 selections each. The Revs picked third in each round, selecting four players. Bethel University's Dawyne "Rick' Smith, was selected in the first round, (third pick overall).
Smith was team captain and a key member of the 2008 NAIA National championship team for the Bethel University Wildcats. The Mid-Fielder and Fielder from Kingston, Jamaica played in 77 games at Bethel in his four year career. He scored 46 goals and had 39 career assists. He was credited with 129 career points. He was All-American Honorable Mention and an All-American Scholar in 2010. Rick was selected to the All-Conference TranSouth Conference First Team in 2010 and 2011. He was named to the Third Team All-American squad in 2011.
Smith was a key member of the Bethel program which reached the NAIA Division I Play-offs all four seasons he was at Bethel. The Cats were 28-0-2 in conference play in their last thirty conference matches.
Along with his professional career he still plans to pursue his PHD in International Business.
