Bethel to Mark Last Game in Dishman Gym

Dishman Gymnasium has been home to Bethel basketball for almost 50 years.

Bethel Athletics will bid farewellto an old friend Saturday. The Bethel-Freed-Hardeman basketball doubleheader will mark the end of basketball being played in historic Dishman Gym. The Bethel Wildcats have played 42 years at Dishman while the Lady Wildcats have enjoyed the arena for 32 seasons.

Seven coaches have worked the sidelines on the men’s side while eight coaches have coached from the women’s bench. There have been almost 1300 games played in the venue since it opened in 1970. The Lady Cats and Cats will begin playing at their new venue, The Crisp Arena next season.
Fans have seen heartbreaking losses but even more thrilling wins and heart stopping victories. Over 1100 times the Purple and Vegas Gold has been worn by student athletes in “The Dish”.
