Renaissance Theatre Set to Perform “Smokey Joe’s Café” at the Dixie

The Bethel University Renaissance Theatre Program is excited to present the Rock ‘n’ Roll Revue “Smokey Joe’s Café.” Performing at 10 venues across Tennessee, Alabama and North Carolina this tour will bring back songs that we all know and love.
The tour will start Saturday Sept. 22 with two performances at the Dixie Performing Arts Center in Huntington, Tenn.  Show times are 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and tickets can be purchased for $10 at the Dixie Box Office. This event is in conjunction with the Huntington Heritage Festival.
Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, as much as anyone, virtually invented rock 'n' roll, and now their songs provide the basis for electrifying entertainment that illuminates a golden age of American culture. In an idealized '50's setting, the classic themes of love won, lost and imagined blend with intriguing staging, exceptional vocalist and slice-of-life emotions. Featuring nearly 40 of the greatest songs ever recorded, SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE isn't just great pop music – it’s compelling musical theatre.
Utilizing Leiber and Stoller’s biggest hits, including "Stand By Me," "Hound Dog," "On Broadway" and "Poison Ivy,” Smokey Joe’s Café uses a of group of men and women who tell their story of love, loss, and joy through Rock ‘n’ Roll classics.

“Theatre has always been about telling stories.  Although this particular production does not tell the story of one individual, in its own way it tells the story of all of us,” commented Brian Hill, Director of Renaissance Theatre.
This fun and exciting show will come with elaborate choreography, impressive harmonies and music that will take you back to the days of good ole rock-n-roll. For Information on tickets contact the Dixie Box Office at (731) 986-2100 or visit their website
