Bethel Baseball wins First Every TranSouth Championship
For the first time in its history, Bethel baseball is the TranSouth regular season champion after an 8-2 win Saturday afternoon over No. 17 FHU at Carnes Field in Henderson.
The Wildcats won two of three games this weekend against the league's preseason favorite and defending regular season champion.
Bethel coach Rusty Thompson said he thought at the season's start his team had a solid shot to win the conference given strong pitching and hitting and the league's membership decrease.
The Wildcats, however, slumped in March as their pitching depth thinned considerably. They also lost their leadoff hitter.
Players said the team refocused around the start of conference play and have played better since then.
"It kind of leaves you lost for words," Bethel coach Rusty Thompson said.
