The Rev. Lisa Anderson to Deliver Commencement Address Aug. 2

The Rev. Lisa Anderson, moderator of the 184th General Assembly of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, will serve as Bethel University’s summer 2014 commencement speaker. It has been a long-standing tradition that the recently elected moderator serve as summer commencement speaker at Bethel.

     Rev. Anderson currently serves as pastor of Colonial Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Memphis. She also serves as Pediatric Chaplain at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a role she has held for two decades. Additionally, Rev. Anderson is founding director of Room in the Inn-Memphis, a ministry for those experiencing homelessness in Memphis.

     Rev. Anderson holds a B.A. in Religion and Philosophy from Christian Brothers University and a Master of Divinity from Memphis Theological Seminary.

     Summer 2014 Commencement services are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 2 on the McKenzie campus in the Rosemary and Harry Crisp II Arena.

      Approximately 250 students are scheduled to earn degrees.

      Commencement services for those receiving undergraduate degrees will be at 10 a.m., and Commencement services for those receiving graduate degrees will be at 2 p.m. Seating for each service begins one hour prior to each event.
