University Events Videographer/Photographer

The University is seeking a creative, committed professional to join our University Relations team on the McKenzie campus. This position will contribute video and photography that captures meaningful experiences, and will be delivered through video, website, social media, external and internal communications and campaigns to bring others into the life of the university.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for storytelling through images and video. While the primary focus of the position is to capture university life, the photographer/videographer will also create headshots, cover lectures and special events.

The position requires some evening and weekend hours and may require driving to off-site locations.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Capture high-quality, compelling photography/video for storytelling to be used across print, digital, web and social media platforms;
  • Capture internal and external events, university culture and headshots;
  • Ensure all photography/video content upholds university standards and is in-line with brand standards;
  • Help conceptualize story boards, create shot lists, and execute photography/videos;
  • Conduct photo and video shoots including positioning of subjects and effective set-up of proper lighting and sound equipment;
  • Work with the Director of University Events to coordinate all production logistics, including scheduling, travel arrangements, etc.;
  • Perform all image post-production, including sizing images, converting to a variety of formats (RGB to CMYK), color correcting/matching and re-touching and manipulation of photographs;
  • Complete video and sound editing, including color correcting, adding and licensing background sounds, narration editing and formatting for variety of digital platforms;
  • Organize and tag digital assets to digital asset management system;
  • Responsible for care, maintenance and inventory list of photography and video equipment and provides recommendations and pricing for new equipment acquisitions;
  • Balances multiple priorities simultaneously and establishes timelines and estimates.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of direct experience working at a skilled level in photography and video;
  • Present for review a creative portfolio with a variety of current photography and videos;
  • Experience in higher education and university life a definite plus;
  • High proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, video equipment and editing software;
  • Experience operating a drone preferred, or licensed operator is a plus;
  • Basic understanding of intellectual property, copyright and image licensing laws and regulations;
  • Ability to multitask and to work in a clear and organized manner to meet multiple concurrent deadlines;
  • Able to take direction and work independently but at the same time work effectively as part of a team.
  • An undergraduate degree or professional certification in this line of work or related field preferred.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Professional and creative office environment.
  • Must be able to lift at least 10 lbs to manage equipment and other materials.
