Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences

Reports to: Provost

Purpose of Position and Scope of Responsibility: Responsible for providing strategic vision and leadership for the overall operations of the College of Arts & Sciences. Serves as a member of the Provost’s Leadership Team, working closely with its members to ensure the overall mission of the University is accomplished and that the goals and objectives of the College of Arts & Sciences are met.

Under the administrative direction of the Provost.

Responsible for all shifts, 7 days/week, 24 hours/day. Incumbents are subject to callback as required.

Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

1. Serve on the Provost’s Leadership Team, sharing common goals and accountability with other team members

2. Advise the Provost on programs, policies, procedures and operations pertaining to the College of Arts & Sciences

3. Ensure that appropriate accreditations are maintained.

4. Assume responsibility for attracting, developing and retaining a faculty committed to academic excellence and innovative programs of education and service.

5. Assume responsibility for ensuring the University’s resources are allocated in a manner consistent with the goals of the strategic plan as approved by the President, Chief Financial Officer and the Board of Trustees and within budget guidelines.

6. Support enrollment and recruitment goals for continued growth.

7. Develop and oversee innovative approaches to enhancing the education and development of the students enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences

8. Perform related accountabilities/responsibilities as required or directed.

Terminal degree and five years executive experience in higher education or a higher education related field

An earned Doctorate Degree and five years executive experience in higher education or a higher education related field

Physical Requirements:

Work requires little or no physical effort. Lifting or performing other work requiring light physical exertion (up to 30 pounds) is intermittent (not a routine part of the job) and secondary to the job.

Environmental Conditions:

Work is performed under basically normal working conditions as in a standard office environment.
