Assistant Professor of Nursing

Purpose of Position and Scope of Responsibility:

Under the general direction of the Director of Nursing, the incumbent is responsible for implementation of the Nursing program curriculum consonant with both educational and nursing best practices. The incumbent is required to function as a mentor to his or her students and to serve as a professional practice role model.

Must be available 8 hours/day, 5 days/week. Additionally, occasional weekend practice may be assigned and required.

Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

E 1. Providing assigned students with instruction that exemplifies best educational and nursing practices. This instruction must adhere to program curriculum for the course(s) taught.

E 2. Mentoring students in their professional growth so that they are prepared for entry into the nursing profession.

E 3. Acting as a role model for students in order to enhance their sense of accountability, responsibility, professionalism, and caring.

E 4. Maintaining currency in the nursing profession through professional development and continuous self-assessment.

E 5. Participating in the ongoing evaluation, assessment, and improvement of the nursing program curriculum in order to insure the achievement of optimum program outcomes.

E 6. Performs related accountabilities/responsibilities as required or directed.


Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge/Education

MSN in Nursing

Experience

2-5 years nursing practice

Licensure, Registration, Certification

Eligibility for licensure in Tennessee

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge/Education

PhD or DNP in Nursing

Experience

1-5 years in nursing education

Licensure, Registration, Certification

Eligibility for licensure in Tennessee

Physical Requirements:

Work requires the physical demands of standing, bending, lifting, stooping or performing other work requiring light physical exertion (up to 30 pounds) on an occasional basis (up to 15% of time) and frequent walking; or moderate physical exertion (up to 50 pounds) on an intermittent basis (not a routine part of the job).

Environmental Conditions:

Work involves intermittent to occasional exposure to unpleasant working conditions or undesirable elements; may involve some contact with potentially hazardous or harmful elements in providing administrative or support services.
