McKenzie, Tenn. – Bethel University has announced the launch of the Wildcat Assistance Fund to support students facing unexpected financial hardships that could interrupt their education. Each year, students encounter sudden challenges such as medical emergencies, housing instability, transportation issues, childcare needs, job loss, or urgent family situations. These challenges can disrupt students' lives and make it difficult to stay enrolled and complete their degrees.
“Our students face real-life challenges that can arise suddenly. When these moments occur, the right support at the right time can make all the difference,” said Bethel President Perry Moulds. “The Wildcat Assistance Fund allows us to step in quickly, offer meaningful help, and ensure that a temporary setback doesn’t prevent a student from reaching the finish line.”
The Wildcat Assistance Fund will provide assistance to students dealing with temporary setbacks. Depending on their situation, students can apply for an interest-free micro-loan that must be repaid or a grant that does not require repayment. Any currently enrolled Bethel student may apply after exhausting their available financial aid options.
The fund will help cover a wide range of expenses, including but not limited to tuition or fees, required books or supplies, short-term housing or utility expenses, childcare or dependent-related needs, one-time medical or mental health costs, safety-related expenses, and replacement of essential items lost due to fire, theft, or natural disasters. Each request will be reviewed individually based on the student’s circumstances and the availability of funds.
“Student success is about more than just academics. When emergencies arise, students need stability and support,” said Interim Provost Joe Hames. “This fund provides a way to respond to those moments with compassion and practicality so that students can stay focused on their goals.”
The Wildcat Assistance Fund is made possible by donor support, allowing Bethel to offer timely help when students face unexpected hardships. It provides a direct way for supporters to keep students enrolled, stable, and progressing toward their degrees.
“We hear from students every day who are balancing school, jobs, families, and sudden challenges. The Wildcat Assistance Fund ensures that when life gets chaotic, they don’t have to give up on their education,” said Vice President of Enrollment & Advancement Lougan Bishop. “Every contribution strengthens our ability to support students in their moment of need.”
