Accommodations Tips for Faculty
These tips for faculty are provided to assist in creating an accessible learning environment for students with disabilities attending Bethel University.
- Academic Standards - Students with disabilities are held to the same academic standards as every other student enrolled in the course, with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Include Accessibility Information in Your Syllabus
- Reasonable Accommodations - Accommodations are considered reasonable as long as course standards are not fundamentally altered and there is a logical link between the student’s functional limitations and the accommodations. For questions regarding the reasonableness of an accommodation, please contact Accessibility Services.
- Assistive Technology - Depending on the disability, students may use note-taking tools and scribe pens. Others may use recorders, computers, assistive listening devices, and other assistive technologies. Faculty are encouraged to permit the use of technology that ensures equal access.
- Testing Accommodations - Provide testing accommodations as recommended by Accessibility Services. Testing accommodations may include, but are not limited to, the following examples: extended time and distraction-reduced environments. Testing Center: Students may schedule testing appointments with the Testing Center, located in the basement of the library, by contacting Amber Watson at wastona@bethelu.edu or 731-352-6926.
- Confidentiality - Maintain disability-related information with the strictest confidentiality. Please refrain from identifying students with disabilities unnecessarily to their peers or colleagues without the student’s consent.
