Renaissance- Director of Production/Associate Creative Director

The Director of Production/Associate Creative Director provides leadership, coordination, and technical expertise for the production areas of the Renaissance Program and serves as a key creative leader within the Renaissance Program and School of Visual and Performing Arts. Working closely with the Associate Dean, this position helps provide creative and technical leadership for major performances, productions, events, and initiatives while also providing production expertise and support for the broader University as assigned. The position provides oversight and expertise in live production, audio, lighting, video, recording, staging, technical systems, creative media, student development, and production planning while collaborating across the Renaissance Program, School of Visual and Performing Arts, and broader University community.

Incumbents are subject to travel, evening/weekend responsibilities, and callback as required.

Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities: 

  • Work closely with the Associate Dean to provide creative and technical leadership for performances, productions, special events, and major initiatives within the Renaissance Program and School of Visual and Performing Arts.

  • Provide leadership, coordination, and oversight for Renaissance production operations, including live audio, lighting, video, recording, staging, technical systems, and other assigned production areas.

  • Collaborate with the Associate Dean and Renaissance leadership to maintain and advance the vision, culture, artistic quality, and production standards of the Renaissance Program.

  • Educate, mentor, and train students in live production, audio, lighting, video, recording, stagecraft, professionalism, leadership, safety, and other production-related skills, and supervise student production teams during rehearsals, performances, recordings, travel, and events.

  • Serve as a primary technical leader and creative collaborator in the planning and execution of major Renaissance productions, concerts, tours, recruiting events, Christmas with Renaissance, and other programs and special events.

  • Assist with musical leadership, coaching, arranging, and rehearsal needs as assigned, particularly in support of the Renaissance Rhythm Section, Country Band, Bluegrass Band, and other contemporary or instrumental ensembles.

  • Direct, create, and oversee video and creative media content featuring Renaissance ensembles, students, performances, and initiatives; the School of Visual and Performing Arts; and, as assigned, the University at large.

  • Direct, produce, record, edit, and mix audio recordings featuring Renaissance ensembles, students, and other assigned projects for artistic, promotional, recruiting, and educational purposes.

  • Oversee the maintenance, organization, inventory, and responsible use of Renaissance production equipment and facilities and assist in identifying future equipment, technology, and production needs.

  • Collaborate with faculty and staff across Renaissance and the School of Visual and Performing Arts to support ensembles, productions, events, recordings, media projects, and interdisciplinary creative initiatives.

  • Assist the University as a whole with production-related needs, providing technical expertise and support for University events, programs, and special initiatives as assigned.

  • Assist in recruiting efforts for the Renaissance Program, particularly students interested in production, audio, lighting, video, recording, music production, and related creative fields.

  • Must be able to travel and maintain evening and weekend flexibility as required by performances, tours, recruitment activities, recordings, productions, and special events.

  • Perform related accountabilities/responsibilities as required or directed.

Physical Requirements:

Work requires the physical demands of standing, bending, lifting, stooping, or performing other work requiring light physical exertion (up to 30 pounds) on an occasional basis (up to 15% of time) and frequent walking; or moderate physical exertion (up to 50 pounds) on an intermittent basis (not a routine part of the job). 

Environmental Conditions: 

Work is performed under basically normal working conditions as in a standard office environment.
