Renaissance: Bluegrass Coordinator (Part-Time)

Purpose of Position and Scope of Responsibility:

The Bluegrass Coordinator provides leadership, coordination, and operational management for the Renaissance Bluegrass program, supporting its growth, performance excellence, and recruitment initiatives.

Working under the direction of the Executive Director of Renaissance, this role oversees the administrative, logistical, and programmatic aspects of the Bluegrass band. The coordinator collaborates with student leadership and Renaissance staff to ensure a high-quality musical experience while advancing recruitment, touring, and external engagement.

This position is primarily managerial in focus, with secondary responsibilities in student development and musical support. The role requires flexibility, including afternoon, evening, weekend commitments, and travel during the academic year.

Under the direct supervision of Executive Director of Renaissance

responsible for up to 26 hours/week

Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

  1. Provides leadership and coordination for the Renaissance Bluegrass program, overseeing daily operations, rehearsals, communication, scheduling, and ensemble support in collaboration with the Executive Director and student leadership.
  2. Leads recruitment efforts for the Bluegrass program through outreach, networking, auditions, school visits, and recruitment events, while supporting scholarship and enrollment initiatives in coordination with Renaissance leadership and Admissions. Exercises independent judgment in prioritizing recruitment strategies, coordinating communication, and advancing program growth objectives.
  3. Coordinates booking, scheduling, and logistical planning for performances, including churches, schools, festivals, and community events, serving as a primary liaison with partner organizations and venues.
  4. Oversees travel operations for the Bluegrass band, including transportation, lodging, itineraries, and on-site coordination, while traveling with the ensemble for most performances to ensure effective execution and support.
  5. Provides production and audio support for rehearsals and performances, including operation and coordination of sound equipment, collaboration with Renaissance production staff, and troubleshooting of technical needs.
  6. Supports student development and musical excellence by mentoring student musicians, assisting with repertoire selection in collaboration with student leadership and the Executive Director, and fostering a culture of professionalism, collaboration, and excellence.
  7. Assists with strategic growth initiatives for the Bluegrass program, including expanded touring opportunities, increased program visibility, recruitment growth, revenue generation, branding efforts, and participation in recording or promotional projects.
  8. Provides ongoing support during summer and off-season periods through planning, communication, scheduling coordination, and preparation for the upcoming academic year.
  9. Performs related accountabilities and responsibilities as required or assigned in support of Renaissance operations.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience in bluegrass, acoustic, or related musical genres; strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills

Bachelor’s Degree

 

Experience in music program coordination, touring ensembles, or event management; familiarity with live sound reinforcement and basic audio systems; experience in student recruitment or collegiate music environments

Physical Requirements:

Work requires the physical demands of standing, bending, lifting, stooping or performing other work requiring light physical exertion (up to 30 pounds) on an occasional basis (up to 15% of time) and frequent walking; or moderate physical exertion (up to 50 pounds) on an intermittent basis (not a routine part of the job).

Environmental Conditions:

Work is performed under basically normal working conditions as in a standard office environment.
