Renaissance: Country Band Director (Part-Time)

Purpose of Position and Scope of Responsibility:

The Country Band Director provides musical leadership, instruction, and artistic direction for the Renaissance Country Band, fostering high-level performance, stylistic authenticity, and student musical growth.

Working under the direction of the Executive Director of Renaissance, this role focuses primarily on repertoire development, rehearsal leadership, and coaching of student musicians. The Director brings professional-level expertise in country music performance and style, helping students develop both technically and artistically within a collaborative ensemble environment.

This position emphasizes musical excellence and mentorship, with minimal administrative or travel responsibilities.

Under the direct supervision of Executive Director of Renaissance

responsible for up to 26 hours a week

Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

  1. Provides musical leadership for the Renaissance Country Band by directing regularly scheduled rehearsals, leading ensemble instruction, and developing rehearsal strategies that strengthen musical precision, cohesion, and overall performance quality.
  2. Coaches and mentors student musicians in country music style, phrasing, tone, stage presence, and performance practices, while providing individualized and group feedback to support musical and personal growth. Exercises independent judgment in evaluating ensemble needs, instructional priorities, and performance readiness.
  3. Selects, develops, and coordinates repertoire appropriate for the ensemble’s instrumentation, skill level, and performance objectives in collaboration with the Executive Director, while ensuring stylistic authenticity and musical variety within the country genre.
  4. Prepares the ensemble for performances through musical instruction, rehearsal planning, and performance oversight, while collaborating with Renaissance staff and student leadership to support effective event execution.
  5. Serves as a collaborative member of the Renaissance leadership team, working closely with other ensemble directors and staff to support the overall mission, culture, and student experience of the Renaissance program.
  6. Contributes to a positive, professional, and team-oriented environment that encourages excellence, collaboration, and student engagement across the program.
  7. Performs related accountabilities and responsibilities as required or assigned in support of Renaissance operations.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma


Demonstrated professional experience in country music performance; strong instrumental proficiency and stylistic understanding of country music; ability to teach, coach, and lead student musicians effectively

Bachelor’s Degree

 

Experience performing at a high professional level (touring, recording, or major artist collaboration); prior teaching or ensemble experience; ability to work effectively with college-aged musicians in a collaborative environment

 

Physical Requirements:

Work requires the physical demands of standing, bending, lifting, stooping or performing other work requiring light physical exertion (up to 30 pounds) on an occasional basis (up to 15% of time) and frequent walking; or moderate physical exertion (up to 50 pounds) on an intermittent basis (not a routine part of the job).

Environmental Conditions:

Work is performed under basically normal working conditions as in a standard office environment.
